At AGrun, we are farming in harmony with nature, regenerating topsoil and natural habitats, and acting as good stewards of the land. We grow crops organically, and as artists and food lovers, enjoy the idea of culture in agriculture, the greenness that small “ag" can offer.
AGrun spans a tract of land between the Delaware & Raritan Canal and the Millstone River in an area of Somerset County, New Jersey known as Weston, settled in the 1700s. We care for the traces of an original Dutch settlement discovered in a woodlot on the north side of the farm and a central water race that once powered two nearby grist mills, now long gone.
We reclaimed the land from a former sod farm that had lain fallow for a decade. In 2006, we started restoring the soil through cover crops, companion planting, and crop rotation so that we can grow and continue to regenerate the land. Water is abundant and the soil stone-free and 65% alluvial sand, ideal for growing root crops such as our signature garlic and French grey shallots, and a variety of heirloom potatoes. We are still experimenting with harmonious growing and try new ideas year by year. Please join us on this adventure.
